South Omaha Boys & Girls Club receives $50,000 grant as part of Lowe’s Renovation Across the Nation

South Omaha Boys & Girls Club receives $50,000 grant as part of Lowe’s Renovation Across the Nation

OMAHA, NE 10/21/16

Lowe’s launched a national partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America called Renovation Across the Nation to support one Boys & Girls Club per state with a $50,000 grant for critical repairs, improvement and refurbishments, totaling $2.5 million in support for Clubs around the country.

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands’ South Omaha Club was selected as Nebraska’s grant recipient. These funds will allow the Club to renovate the aged locker rooms, swim area and teen area. These updates will enhance Club pride and attract new members and partnerships with the local high school and middle school that use the facility.

Throughout November and December, Lowe’s employees will be installing new lockers, a washer and dryer, as well as putting a fresh coat of paint on the walls. The Club also purchased new electronic dart boards, a bumper pool table, bean bag toss and ice maker. There are also plans for Lowe’s employees to volunteer at the Club and for Club teens to visit a local Lowe’s store to job shadow for a day.

On Saturday, October 22nd from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. the South Omaha Club will host Games O! Rama which will feature some of the new items they purchased. Members from all the Clubs will compete in the annual event and enjoy some of the new games the Lowe’s grant has provided.

My life and my family's foundation was established at the Boys Clubs back in the late 60's. My mother believed in what the Club meant in our lives and I will celebrate my 35th year in the Movement this year. I am so honored to have learned from the some of the best men around…Bill Hinckley, Tom Davis, Ike Snell, Dwight Day, Fred Schott, Don Preister, Maurice Lambert, Lonnie McIntosh, Walter Henderson, Wayne Houston and Bob Solonynka.
