On Thursday, May 17, 2018, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands, in partnership with Omaha Public Schools and Bryan Middle School, broke ground on a 14,000 sq. ft. Boys & Girls Club facility which will be attached to Bryan Middle School. The Henry A. Davis Boys & Girls Club will open in August 2019 and will serve 300 members per day. The proven Clubs & School concept will remove transportation barriers, give students a safe and fun place to go when not in school, and provide working families with affordable and quality after-school programming all year long.
Guests attending included OPS Board Member Lacey Merica; OPS Chief Operations Officer Dr. Antoinette Turnquist; Nebraska Sen. Carol Blood; Bellevue Mayor Rita Sanders; Bellevue City Councilman Doug Preister; CEO and President of Boys and Girls Clubs of the Midlands Ivan Gilreath; Mr. Henry A. Davis, who is being honored today for his support of the Bryan Boys & Girls Club as well as representatives of Hausman construction, Holland Basham Architects and Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., and OPS administrators.
The $3.8 million project will have a 1,900 square-foot teen center and a 1,650 square foot tween/youth center. Other new areas will include a new gym, innovation center and outdoor patio. The Club addition will also give Bryan Middle School an updated focal point to the front of the school. The Club and school will share 36,500 square feet of community spaces including a gym, locker rooms, circulation/hallways, cafeteria, auditorium and swimming pool.
