The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands (BGCM) awarded $245,500 in scholarship dollars to 52 Club members and alumni at this year’s Scholarship Luncheon on Wednesday, June 13 at University of Nebraska – Omaha’s Scott Conference Center.
The BGCM Scholarship Program is for current and active Club member high school seniors and alumni that plan to attend an accredited two or four-year college, university, vocational training or nursing school. Scholarships are eligible to be renewed for up to four years and are awarded based on length of membership, participation level at the Club, financial need, leadership and community service.
This year’s luncheon guest speaker was Matt Davison, Associate Athletic Director for Football at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. As a former Husker football and basketball player, Davison shared his story with the award recipients and guests.
Jermaine Jones, Vice President of Community and Scholarship Outreach at BGCM, oversees the Scholarship Program.
“As a North Omaha Boys & Girls Clubs alum, former scholarship recipient and intern, I have a great appreciation for what these types of opportunities can provide our young people. Our scholarship program will continue to grow over the next several years, providing substantial financial assistance for our Club members pursuing post-secondary education,” Jones said.
